‘Blade Runner’ sequel titled ‘Blade Runner 2049’

The Blade Runner sequel will be arriving next year and Warner Bros. has revealed that the film’s official title is Blade Runner 2049.

Presumably, the “2049” refers to the year since the original Blade Runner took place in November 2019. Fans are assuming that the 30 years which has passed orients the film for an aged Harrison Ford, returning to reprise his role as Rick Deckard from the 1982 original.

Warner’s press release specifically states, “Story details are not being revealed.” Check out the photo below.

Villeneuve is directing from a script by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green with Ridley Scott producing and Roger Deakins handling the cinematography.

Villeneuve has said that this sequel is “not possible to live up to the original” acknowledging that Ridley Scott’s film is “a masterpiece.”

“It’s one of the best sci-fi films, one of the best films in the past 50 years. For me, what terrorises me right now is what I’m doing is taking Blade Runner and making it my own, and that is horrific.” … “To realise that when I look at the dailies, it’s not Ridley Scott, it’s me, and that it’s different. It’s still the same universe, we are still in the same dream, but it’s mine, so it’s like I have no idea how you people will react, I don’t know. It has its own life.”

The film also stars Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, Mackenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi, David Dastmalchian, Hiam Abbass, Lennie James, and Dave Bautista.

While it’s unclear, fans can expect a vast number of these actors are playing replicants.
